Comrie (H) Match Report

Back to Winning Ways

Sunday the 6th of June brought about the season’s first proper village cricket match with DCC taking on Comrie in a 40 overs game. The conditions were perfect, and the wicket retained a tinge of green. Captain Shandy Cunningham lost the toss and Comrie elected to bat.

After a solid opening stand of 33, George Buchanan-Smith struck with two quick wickets and the visitors toiled hard to re-establish momentum. Simon Breasley then clean bowled Comrie’s captain, who was playing some lovely shots and looked capable of a big score, for 33. This wicket would prove to be the turning point in the innings, as no further Comrie players would reach double digits. This was helped in part due to Charles Dunn upsetting Comrie’s middle order. In only his second competitive game back after a 34 month layoff with a variety of injuries, the youngster wound up taking his first 5-for. The innings came to an end after 36.4 overs as Gregg ‘Deadly’ Dunsire knocked over the last man. Comrie all out for 104.

Best figures: C. Dunn (18 off 7 for 5), G. Buchanan-Smith (27 off 8 for 2), S. Cunningham (8 off 6 for 1)

Chasing a modest total, the tactics were firmly rooted in sensible batting. Openers, Alan Douglas and Adam Buchanan-Smith got the innings off to a gentle and assured start. ABS in particular was gliding the ball around the outfield nicely, but unfortunately picked up a slight knock and retired hurt. The middle order contributions kept the run rate ticking over and the finish line was on the horizon. Sandy Cunningham and Jack Smart flirted with the potential of big scores, but the pair both fell in the teens to good bowling. After George Buchanan-Smith was given out early to a tight LBW decision, tensions started to rise slightly. However, fears of a collapse were put to bed when Simon Breasley and Cameron Glasgow confidently nurdled the ball around the park to post a final stand of 30 to see the mighty DCC home with 10 overs to spare. Hopefully the first of many this season.

Top Scores: C. Glasgow 24*, A. Buchanan-Smith 22**, J. Smart 16
