Knocking off the Rust.
Wednesday the 2nd of June heralded the start of the 2021 DCC season with a 20/20 match against the first XI of Dollar Academy – the Milan Derby of Clackmannanshire cricket.
The conditions were surprisingly perfect. DCC captain for the day, Alan Douglas won the toss and opted to have first crack with the bat.
The skipper opened the innings, in tow with Adam Buchanan-Smith. The pair made a steady start, but through some fine bowling the wickets soon began to tumble and the runs started to dry up. The school had their tails up and began to chirp the experienced pros. A few brief cameos helped, with the best knock of the DCC batting lineup coming from Jack Smart- a relative newbie to the club – batting in his successful violent fashion.
As the innings reached its final overs a dozen or so runs were added after Smart’s dismissal, and DCC were all out with two balls to go for a rusty 78.
Top DCC Scorers: J. Smart (21), C. Dunn (13), Extras (11)
Defending a tough total DCC had no option but to bowl aggressively. After a few early chances the school began to ramp up the scoring rate, and the match turned into a foregone conclusion. Within 9 overs the contest was over. Being the good sports that we all are, it was agreed that the School would bat out their overs as they only have 3 games this season. Funnily enough, the scoring rate decreased and the school only managed to add 35 more runs. A more positive end for DCC.
RESULT: Dollar Academy victory by 8 wickets
We give thanks to our opposition and nervously relish the return leg
DCC man of the match: Jack Smart
