At Dollar Cricket Club we pride ourselves on the fact that we do not charge membership fees or match fees. Some people choose to make an annual contribution entirely of their own volition, and now-and-again others choose to make a lifetime contribution. Alongside this, players, friends and supporters do what they can, when they can. It all seems to hang together quite nicely!
However, quite a lot (most) of our annual running costs (bats, pads, gloves and helmets) are met through our annual xmas fundraiser.
One day each year we gather, and invite the wider community to join in, as we hold a “raffle and game day” which generally turns out to be a whole bunch of fun. We mostly hold this event in The Kings Seat Bar & Restaurant although in 2017 we did venture out to the Alloa Leisure Bowl for an afternoon of Indoor Bowls. A thoroughly recommended activity if you happen to have a spare hour or two in Alloa, whilst waiting for the Beak.
However, this year (2018) Turned out to be one of the best fundraisers ever with our resident global roadie “Slumpers” pulling a lot of strings and flying in Geri Halliwell to draw our joint top raffle prize of a Morgan car for the day sponsored by http://www.caledonianclassics.co.uk/ and won by The Hurter. The other joint top raffle prize was some fancy art-work kindly donated – and presented – by Scottish Artist Nichol Wheatley and won by our resident philistine Cameron Glasgow.
Games and winners (as far as anyone can remember) were as follows:
- Jason won the ‘Little man golf’
- ‘Big man golf’ winners were Deadly and Slumpers
- Rum tosses won by PK and Deadly
- Other raffle prizes were won by a range of people
- …can’t remember who won the paracetamol
Above having a blast, we raised a lovely amount of moolah for the 2019 season and the format for the day is now available to licence through SB for any similar club seeking likewise fun, funds and frocks.
Thanks to everyone who attended.
