Dollar Cricket Club’s annual fixture against the first XI from Dollar Academy is a fixture we relish and cherish. The DA first XI are a very decent set of cricketers who progress every year under great coaching, not least by Mr Frost.
Given that we have two games against them this year, we elected to mix the teams so the boys could gain some experience of the value of “slow running” between the wickets.
Captains, Lachlan Peterson (DA) and JP Ward (DCC) mixed up the teams and Lachlan won the toss electing to bat.
What pursued was an excellent game with some very notable performances. A splendid 50 (retired) from Lachlan, an absolutely unplayable over from Darwin Douglas (yes he bowled me out!) and some very clever batting from Fynn Hall and Lewis McLaren saw the game tied with 2 balls left.
A suggestion of a wide on the penultimate ball saw all eyes on the umpire who was having nothing of it…quite rightly.
A close in field for the last ball…which Fynn Hall deftly pushed, with soft hands, to short mid-wicket for an easy single.
The sun was shining, the youngsters maybe learnt a few “old dog” tricks and it is nicely set up for the competitive 20/20 later in the summer.
