A Bump in the Road.
Sunday the 27th of June saw the last home game of the season with DCC taking on Kinross in a 30 overs match. Conditions were fair, and the wicket looked like it would give a few more favours to the bowlers than the bats. Captain Sandy Cunningham won the toss and elected to have a bat.
The skipper, in tow with the inform Calum Weir opened the batting and both men looked assured in seeing off the first dozen deliveries. Cunningham would then be caught behind strangling one down the leg side. This saw Charlie Dunn, who had been elevated up the order, come in. Despite playing a couple of nice shots, he would soon be back in the shed. Graham Buick, making his first appearance of the summer, began to build a platform with Weir, but as soon as the pair decided to play with more aggression Buick was caught for 11.
The less said about the rest of innings the better, with 4 DCC men returning to the benches without worrying the scorer. The collapse only intensified when Weir was caught for a determined 35. Rob Passe, who looked in good nick (11), and Jack Smart (1) would be the only other batsmen to add to the total. DCC all out for 83 of 21 overs with extras helping a fair amount.
Top scores: C. Weir (35), Extras (19), G. Buick (11).
Defending a tough total, DCC opening bowlers, Tim Dillion and Jason Syme made some nice early inroads. Syme, in particular, was storming in with his usual fury and claimed the wicket of DCC loanee Toby Douglas with a peach, in addition to two other scalps. Kinross kept edging closer to the total, but when Calum Weir claimed three quick wickets, including a spectacular caught and bowled, an unlikely comeback seemed not so unlikely. Ultimately it wasn’t to be. After a couple of expensive overs, DCC stalwart Nichol Wheatley, in tow with the excellent Kinross opener, who carried his bat, saw Kinross over the line.
Best figures: J. Syme (17 of 5 for 3), C. Weir (19 of 5 for 3).
We give thanks to our friends and rivals Kinross and eagerly await the shot at redemption in August.
DCC MOTM: CALUM WEIR
